For students who have previously achieved a Level 2 qualification in carpentry and who wish to progress to the next level.
Units include:
- first fix flooring and roofing
- second fixing operations
- first fix roofing and stairs
- second fixing double doors and mouldings
- setting up and using fixed and transportable machinery.
You will complete a minimum of 30 hours of on-the-job experience within the industry and have the opportunity to work on many live projects in the community. In recent years, carpentry students helped to convert a double-decker bus into a much-needed shelter for local homeless people. You will also benefit from site visits, industry talks and demonstrations from experts.
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English, plus a Level 2 Standard/NVQ (apprentice qualified).
Attendance is one day a week. Typical hours would be 9am-4.30pm. A high level of attendance is necessary in order to successfully achieve the qualification.
Learning and assessment will combine both theory and practical sessions. You will also complete two online exams. You will log your learning journey in a diploma portfolio folder. All elements must be completed to successfully achieve the diploma.
